6 Roadside Bake Stalls To Visit On Your Tasmania Road Trip
One of the best things about travelling by campervan is being able to stop wherever you want, especially when there’s freshly baked bread or a delicious treat involved!
Across Tasmania, you’ll find roadside bake stalls stocked with homemade sourdough, buttery pastries, loaded cookies and plenty of other goodies. Some are set up in little sheds, while others operate out of colourful vintage fridges using an honesty-box system.
Travelling by campervan makes these stops even better. There’s plenty of room to stock up on your favourite treats, plus a fridge to keep anything that needs to stay cool from melting on a warm day. You can save some for later or find a scenic spot to pull over and enjoy your goodies.
Along with these six roadside bake stalls to add to your Tasmania road trip itinerary, discover more roadside stalls all over Australia on the Roadside Stalls website
Before you go
Check each stall’s social media pages or websites for their latest opening hours and restock times, as many only operate on selected days. Popular treats can sell out quickly, so get there early or pre-order your bakes (if available) to avoid disappointment!
The Bruny Baker
The most iconic of all bread fridges, the Bruny Baker on Bruny Island is an institution famous for its freshly baked woodfired sourdough loaves. You can find a variety of loaves along with Anzac biscuits and other small treats in a collection of retro fridges by a large tree. The Bread Fridge is re-stocked every morning, so get there early because it sells out quick!
📌 Location: Corner of Sheepwash Road and Bruny Island Main Road, Alonnah TAS 7150.
NOTE: You need to catch the ferry from Kettering to get to Bruny Island. The ferry is suitable for campervans and motorhomes, so check the ferry timetable before heading out and allow a little extra time during busy holiday periods.

A relatively new addition to Tasmania’s roadside baking scene, the Crabtree-based Hanngry Italian ‘makes carbs great again’ by stocking freshly baked sourdough loaves, sourdough cookies and seasonal bakes like hot cross buns from their very own Bread Shed.
Bread drops are usually on Friday afternoons with occasional pop-ups at local markets, and pre-orders are available on their website. It’s a handy stop if you’re looking to pick up some fresh bread for your campervan breakfast or dinner!
📌 Location: 670 Crabtree Road, Crabtree TAS 7109.

Before You Visit A Roadside Bake Stall
As these stalls are by the side of the road and/or in front of private residential properties, always drive slowly and carefully in the area, use your indicators when turning and provide plenty of notice to other drivers when turning into and leaving the spot. Avoid blocking the road so that others can come and go. Remember Australian road rules and safe driving practices while driving at all times.
Opening and restock times vary at each stall, so do check their social media pages before making the journey. Most of these stalls accept bank transfer or PayID payments but do bring cash and exact change with you in case your phone has no reception.
